Kellum Incident

Friday morning about 9:30 a.m., Sevier County Sheriff's Deputy Kristen Reed was dispatched to a residence on Kellum Road in Gillham. Reed was told by the reporting party that Scott Morphew had a male suspect pinned down in his yard.

When Reed arrived, she discovered that Morphew had "hogtied" the suspect who was identified as 26-year-old Clinton Moss of Horatio.

Morphew reported Moss was in his pasture trying to steal his property. Morphew then showed Reed the trailer that Moss was loading stuff on at the bottom of a hill.

Morphew said he noticed the trailer and when he went to investigate, he discovered a 4-wheeler beside the trailer. He said when Moss saw him, he jumped on the 4-wheeler and took off through the field. Morphew said Moss rammed into one gate but didn't get through, so he tried to ram a second gate. Moss also drove the 4-wheeler into a white GMC pickup and a blue Chevy truck before Morphew subdued Moss on the ground.

According to the incident report, the trailer belonged to Morphew and Moss had loaded eight tires, two digital game cameras, two deer feeders, a battery powered grinder, a push mower, a trouble light, a fire extinguisher, a jump start box, a weed eater/edger and some tiller attachments on the trailer.

Morphew said the value of the trailer and the other items totaled over $2,000. However, the 4-wheeler that Moss was riding was taken from a house up the road and belonged to Angela Morphew. She said the 4-wheeler was valued at $6,900.

Moss was taken into custody and charged with two counts of criminal mischief in the first degree and two counts of criminal trespass in or on a vehicle or structure. Moss will also be charged with the Theft of the ATV.
